klægg consists of Nelly Haag and Jona Kleinlein. We are based in Lofoten, a small archipelago in the north of Norway.
Our artistic research lingers at the intersection of cultural environments and technologies. For example: Our hybrid documentary project 50 METERS FROM THE ROAD explores contemporary archaeology using machinima filmmaking. These observations take shape in both photorealistic and digitally manipulated images.
We are happy to announce that we have received funding from regional and national sources in Norway for our latest film project. As we build our network, we are also available for hire. By the way, “klegg” in Norwegian means “horsefly”.
Jona studied Moving Images at the Film Art School in Kabelvåg. He also has a background in graphic design. He worked on several film productions in Northern Norway, then moved to Vienna to be part of the renowned Austrian art collective Total Refusal. In 2023 he moved back to Lofoten. His work has been shown at GoShorts in the Netherlands, Milan Machinima Festival in Italy and International Film Festival Rotterdam and Diagonale Vienna.
Nelly has an MA in Theater Studies. Her work as an assistant director and editorial researcher inspired her to leave cultural institutions in Germany. Instead, her creative research has led her to work with new media in documentary filmmaking. She moved to Lofoten in 2023. She is an alumna of the EsoDoc training program (2025). She is currently learning about digital technologies and how to use them.
